If you have broken, fractured teeth, or decayed teeth or fractured fillings, you might want to consider porcelain inlays and onlays. Porcelain inlays and onlays are dental restorations meant for moderately large dental damages, i.e., the damage is too large for fillings but not large enough for a dental crown. They allow you to repair your teeth while maintaining most of your teeth’ natural structure. At Energy Dental, we provide same-day porcelain inlays and onlays to restore your smile.

What are porcelain inlays and onlays?

Porcelain inlays and onlays are dental restorations made of porcelain, a tooth-colored material that resembles natural enamel. Also known as partial crowns, porcelain inlays and onlays are larger than fillings but smaller than dental crowns. They allow you to fix your dental damages and concerns without shaving off most of your teeth’ natural structure, which would be necessary with dental crowns.

The term “inlays” is used when the porcelain material is bonded with the tooth’s center, and the term “onlays” is used when the porcelain material is bonded with the external surface or cusps. Porcelain inlays and onlays are the ideal alternatives to dental crowns and composite fillings because they conserve most of your teeth’ structure. We produce same-day, tooth-colored porcelain inlays and onlays for optimal, natural-looking results.

The benefits of porcelain inlays and onlays:

  • Matches the color of natural teeth
  • Conserves healthy dental structure
  • More attractive than metallic fillings
  • More conservative than dental crowns
  • Look and feel completely natural
  • Easy to maintain and clean
  • Stain-resistant
  • Extremely durable
  • Strengthens weakened teeth

The inlays and onlays process at Energy Dental

Your porcelain inlays and onlays process starts with a personalized consultation with the cosmetic and restorative dentists at Energy Dental. Dr. Laya Omranian examines your teeth, review your dental history, discuss your goals and concerns, and curate a personalized treatment plan for you. Porcelain inlays and onlays aren’t suitable for everyone, so our dentists will determine if you’re the right candidate.

During the inlays and onlays procedure, the dentist will take digital impressions and a mold of your teeth. If you have dental decay or old fillings, they’ll be removed and treated. Once the space is cleansed and hollowed, the dentist will attach a temporary filling while the porcelain inlays and onlays are prepared. You may need a second appointment to receive the porcelain inlays and onlays.

However, in some cases, we might perform the entire inlays and onlays procedure in one session. We use the cutting-edge CEREC technology to produce in-office, same-day dental restorations, such as crowns, inlays, and onlays. If you’re the right candidate, we’ll prepare the same-day inlays and onlays and cement them in place in one session.
