If you’re concerned about the cracks, discoloration, or chips on your teeth but you’re hesitant about getting dental crowns or veneers, you may want to consider dental bonding. At Energy Dental, we perform dental bonding using a tooth-colored composite resin material to repair your dental damage without shaving off natural teeth structure. It’s a cost-effective alternative to other dental restoration procedures.

What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding is a simple, in-office procedure wherein a tooth-colored composite resin material is applied to your teeth. This might be done to repair small dental cracks or conceal discoloration. Dental bonding is generally performed as a simple procedure without anesthesia unless it’s accompanied by a filling, and it doesn’t involve multiple sessions.

Why get dental bonding?

Teeth bonding is one of the safest, least invasive, and most inexpensive dental treatments. You may consider dental bonding to address numerous dental concerns, such as chipped teeth, cracked teeth, discolored teeth, and spaces between teeth. In some cases, you can also get dental bonding to change the shape of your teeth, making them appear longer.

The benefits of bonding:

  • Simple in-office procedure
  • Completely non-invasive
  • No need to shave off existing teeth structure
  • No need for anesthesia
  • Performed in one session
  • Repair minor dental cracks
  • Cover up stains or discoloration
  • Elongate a tooth or cover up gaps between teeth
  • No downtime or complications

The Bonding Process at Energy Dental

Dental bonding is performed as a simple, in-office procedure in our dental clinic. It doesn’t involve any special preparation, but you’ll need to consult our dentists to determine if you’re a viable candidate. Bonding is only suitable for extremely minor dental damages, so you might not be deemed a viable candidate if you have severely damaged teeth. In that case, you may need dental crowns or veneers instead.

During your dental bonding procedure, the dentist will use a shade guide to select the appropriate shade for the composite resin. The goal is to resemble the shade of your natural teeth. Dr. Laya Omranian will apply a conditioning liquid to your teeth and roughen their surface, which all facilitate optimal dental bonding. Once your tooth surface is prepared, the dentist will apply the composite resin material to your tooth.

The dentist will carefully mold the putty-like composite resin to ensure it looks aesthetically pleasing and natural. After shaping the bonding material, the dentist will use ultraviolet light or laser energy to harden it in place. Finally, Dr. Laya Omranian will apply the finishing touches to the bonding material, shaping and polishing it to make it look natural. The entire procedure concludes in 30 to 60 minutes with no downtime.

Maintenance Tips for Bonded Teeth:

  • Brush and floss twice a day
  • Avoid hard foods, such as ice and candy
  • Don’t bite your nails
  • Avoid tobacco, coffee, and tea for two days after the procedure
  • Go for regular dental cleanings every six months
